Root Candles-Medina, OH

 Happy Spring!

Last month, we decided to visit an old favorite-Root Candles in Medina, Ohio. We've made day trips out there since I was a teenager to grab some lunch in the area (Cool Beans is right down the road!) and visit the local shops. I love how big the Root Candles building itself is. You can easily spend over an hour walking around inside looking at the various gifts and candles. I am a huge sensory-oriented person so I really enjoy walking into every room and smelling all the different scents. Plus, it's a local company and the factory is behind the store where the candles are all made.

The Root Candle company has been around for about 150 years. They were established around 1869. Upon walking through the big entrance doors, their history facts are displayed on the back wall and draws you in. They are passionate about their beekeeping and use of honey and beeswax in their high quality candles. When I was younger, they used to have an active beehive displayed in one of the back rooms with an explanation of how they extract the honey without disturbing the bee colony. It was fascinating to watch the bees at work. I used to stand there for long periods of time hoping to find the Queen Bee, but was never successful. Unfortunately, the active beehive is no longer displayed indoors. If you take a look around the entrance and the cash registers, they have fliers for various events they hold. You can find more info about the company and their hours here

Some days, nothing is more exciting than to see a wall full of candles to smell. There seems to be an endless number of large rooms with many table displays and walls of different sizes and scents. When you think you've smelled every one, there's another room. I'm obsessed with the large brick archways into every new room. The rooms are all massive and open, even with all the displays you never feel crowded with a lot of people around. As I've stated, they also have various other gifts and home decorations. When we were there that day, they had the Vera Bradley's Little Mermaid collection that I had a minor freak out over.

This is a great place to take a day trip when the weather is nice so you can also walk around downtown Medina. They have plenty of little shops and restaurants with character (one is even inside an old bank with steel vaults in the middle of the room!). I do like going to Root Candles periodically to see what's new, like their aromatherapy line was a surprise for me. I like the variety of styles and sizes that the candles come in. I also love that they are local and Ohio-made. Have you been to Root Candles and what are your favorite scents? Let me know in the comments!

Cedar Point's Boardwalk Nights

Step Right Up!     Cedar Point's Boardwalk Nights is a carnival-esque evening event featuring games, live entertainment, and themed food and drinks. There's also themed merchandise in the gift shops.  It occurs every night (except Tuesdays) July 19th-August 18th from 7pm-10pm. I  love that they're fully embracing the Boardwalk theme, as it's now one of my favorite areas to be in the park. When we attended Winter Chill Out earlier this year, it was on a sneak peek events poster in the costume building. While they didn't delve into the details, I'm glad they didn't spoil the surprises because this event is a lot more fun that I had anticipated.  $39.99     Boardwalk Nights starts off with a cavalcade at 7pm along the Boardwalk (between Windseeker and Gatekeeper). There were 3 floats, dancers, and kites. However, all 3 floats don't make it down the entire boardwalk. They start over near Gatekeeper/MaXair and stop in designated spots. One float stops...

Exploring Historic Downtown Ashland, Ohio

Hello!     I recently was feeling nostalgic and wanted to visit my old college town to see how it has changed for better or worse. I am an alum of Ashland University and I periodically miss those days, though they say you can never go back. If only. One of the things I loved about attending school there was being out in the quiet country. There was no hustle and bustle or noise of city life (or a more populated suburb). I miss the sense of peace it brought me. However, in recent years, they have built it up near the highway. More chain restaurants, apartments, and large corporations. I'm happy the college students have more options because some were really needed, but it definitely has made it noisier and ruined some of the country feel. I'm happy that the historic downtown closer to the university is being preserved with it's stunning architectural buildings and new small businesses. I wanted to take a look and see what downtown Ashland has to offer, with the help of ano...

Cedar Point's Winter Chill Out 2025

Happy Opening Week!     This post is far later than I wanted it to be. I did NOT anticipate posting Winter Chill Out a couple of days before opening day, but here we are 😬. I was sick for a couple of weeks after Winter Chill Out, then I've been in the process of interviewing for a new job for  the last 6 weeks (I got it though!). It's been a whirlwind of a month and a half, but full of new beginnings! I know the announcements in this post the public is now privy to, but I hope you stick around to read about our whole experience with this year's tour.      Tickets were changed from a lottery to first-come-first-serve this year. It started at 10am, and I got 3 error messages trying to enter the queue before getting into the virtual line. It took me about 30 minutes to get into the ticket window, which wasn't too bad. One of the first things I noticed was ticket prices increased from $75 last year to $100 this year. (All the money from this event g...
