S'witch Social vs. CRMD: An Ice Cream Showdown

 Happy Summer!

It has been unusually hot here in Ohio for June. With these 90+ degree days, I wanted to try some non-chain ice cream places. Two of the most Instagramed ones are in Italian Village in Columbus, so we're doing a friendly head-to-head competition between S'witch Social and CRMD.

Up first is S'witch Social. They are known for their cookie ice cream sandwiches. I love the decor in this place. Very cute and bright. There is no seating inside, but they provide a couple benches outside. They also have a water dish outside the door for your furry friends, which always scores points.

You can pick any cookie, two of the same, or two different with an ice cream of your choice for your cookie sandwich. (You can check out the cookie and ice cream flavors here.) They have so many cookie options that I was torn for a while before settling on the Party Animal. It was perfect for indecisive people like me because I couldn't decide if I wanted chocolate or sprinkles. It's made with their house made cookie dough, dark chocolate, m&ms, and confetti sprinkles. I went for some strawberry ice cream and did a S'witch Sundae. The cookie was crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside, and you could taste every flavor. The ice cream was creamy and definitely not skimping on the strawberry flavor. You know how some places it's a *hint* of strawberry? That was not the case.  One friend who just got Butter Pecan ice cream said it was "a solid Butter Pecan. Very good." The other who got a S'witch Sandwich said she liked the cookies the best. It was a very satisfying sugar rush.

Next up is CRMD. Other than their dislike of vowels, they are known for their "puffle." The decor is black and white. There is an Instagram wall where you can take a picture with your ice cream. They also do not have tables inside, but they do have a comfy padded large bench area by the window. It was very cozy. I probably would have sat there all day.

The puffle is described as a puffed up waffle cone and they have unique ice cream flavors to choose from. (Check them out here.) I was hesitant about any of the colored ice creams because it just screamed food coloring to me, so I chose to go with the Choco Marsh Swirl in a puffle because I am a hardcore marshmallow lover. You also get one free topping if you'd like, and I went with Cinnamon Toast Crunch. There was definitely lots of gooey marshmallow deliciousness in the ice cream, but somehow the flavor of the ice cream itself left me missing something. This puffle though, was the star of the show. Think about if you wrapped a belgium waffle around your ice cream. That's pretty much what it is. It was soft and fluffy, yet crunchy and was so delightful.

The winner of this showdown is..... S'witch Social. The ice cream is so flavorful and the cookies are cooked to perfection. You can pick any cookie and any ice cream flavor and you can't go wrong. My sweet tooth was so satisfied after leaving and I've been thinking about going back ever since. Correction: It's the Party Animal cookie that I've been thinking about ever since. CRMD had some great ice cream flavor potential, but there is something lacking in flavor that leaves you wanting more. The puffle was the best thing and I don't think I'd eat the ice cream without a puffle, but I'm not going out of my way to head back there. Have you ever been to either of these ice cream places? Let me know your thoughts in the comments!

Cedar Point's Boardwalk Nights

Step Right Up!     Cedar Point's Boardwalk Nights is a carnival-esque evening event featuring games, live entertainment, and themed food and drinks. There's also themed merchandise in the gift shops.  It occurs every night (except Tuesdays) July 19th-August 18th from 7pm-10pm. I  love that they're fully embracing the Boardwalk theme, as it's now one of my favorite areas to be in the park. When we attended Winter Chill Out earlier this year, it was on a sneak peek events poster in the costume building. While they didn't delve into the details, I'm glad they didn't spoil the surprises because this event is a lot more fun that I had anticipated.  $39.99     Boardwalk Nights starts off with a cavalcade at 7pm along the Boardwalk (between Windseeker and Gatekeeper). There were 3 floats, dancers, and kites. However, all 3 floats don't make it down the entire boardwalk. They start over near Gatekeeper/MaXair and stop in designated spots. One float stops...

Exploring Historic Downtown Ashland, Ohio

Hello!     I recently was feeling nostalgic and wanted to visit my old college town to see how it has changed for better or worse. I am an alum of Ashland University and I periodically miss those days, though they say you can never go back. If only. One of the things I loved about attending school there was being out in the quiet country. There was no hustle and bustle or noise of city life (or a more populated suburb). I miss the sense of peace it brought me. However, in recent years, they have built it up near the highway. More chain restaurants, apartments, and large corporations. I'm happy the college students have more options because some were really needed, but it definitely has made it noisier and ruined some of the country feel. I'm happy that the historic downtown closer to the university is being preserved with it's stunning architectural buildings and new small businesses. I wanted to take a look and see what downtown Ashland has to offer, with the help of ano...

Cedar Point's Winter Chill Out 2025

Happy Opening Week!     This post is far later than I wanted it to be. I did NOT anticipate posting Winter Chill Out a couple of days before opening day, but here we are 😬. I was sick for a couple of weeks after Winter Chill Out, then I've been in the process of interviewing for a new job for  the last 6 weeks (I got it though!). It's been a whirlwind of a month and a half, but full of new beginnings! I know the announcements in this post the public is now privy to, but I hope you stick around to read about our whole experience with this year's tour.      Tickets were changed from a lottery to first-come-first-serve this year. It started at 10am, and I got 3 error messages trying to enter the queue before getting into the virtual line. It took me about 30 minutes to get into the ticket window, which wasn't too bad. One of the first things I noticed was ticket prices increased from $75 last year to $100 this year. (All the money from this event g...
